How to use the multi-window feature on Android smartphones

Every OEM has their own way of implementing the feature with their custom user-interface and some even give users the option to turn on/off the feature. In fact, a few OEMs go beyond the multi-window and give users the option to run apps in a popup window that draws over other apps.
